About Us

Joan Caton, a gifted storyteller and educator, has combined knowledge of Arthurian legend and educational expertise into programs and entertainment which educates and entertains students and adults. Caton Enterprises, Ltd. programs interact with the audience via music, storytelling, culture information and costume.

Caton Enterprises, Ltd. began in 1989 with the program, “Arthur Alive!” following Joan's receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities Independent Study Fellowship. At that time, the company also sold curriculum kits which dealt with Arthurian legend, Celtic Literature and Shakespeare and the Renaissance.

In 1994, Joan was contacted by Bristol Renaissance Faire in Bristol, Wisconsin to become the first bookseller for the Faire. From 1991-1995, Caton Enterprises, Ltd. ran the bookstore, “The Printer's Paige” at the faire. While at the Faire, Joan met reenactors and artists involved in the Renaissance arts. These acquaintances engendered programs for Caton Enterprises, Ltd.

Between 1994 and the present, the company developed both its Ambiance and Wedding divisions which provide Renaissance and Medieval entertainment for corporate picnics, private events, weddings and bridal showers. Especially popular are Renaissance Wedding which bring an ensemble of entertainers and musicians to a reception location where the artists create the revelry and elegance of the Renaissance.

In 2003, full-scale student Medieval Banquets were begun, held in a castle restaurant! These banquets, held during the school day, present authentic entertainment and food for students and their teachers.

Currently five programs are offered - “Arthur Alive!” “Medieval Knights,” “The Falconer,” “Jester and his Castle,” and “Heroes.” Caton Enterprises, Ltd. is proud of its reputation for quality, interdisciplinary school programs and boasts many long-term school clients. Some of these clients have booked programs since the year of inception in 1989.
